Day 7 — Cirque Peak - Lookout Point
Cirque Peak

This was a lighter day as I wanted to spend some time to relax at Lake Louise. I planned one hike this day at Cirque Peak and even that didn't go quite as planned. I encountered a lot more snow than I expected (it's the end of June), so I didn't press myself to summit the namesake peak.

Nevertheless it was an enjoyable day, helped by a run-in with some marmots along the trail and the excellent weather.

Day 7 — Cirque Peak

  • Reflections in Lake Louise

Lake Louise, Banff National Park The super calm surface of Lake Louise early the next morning. I woke up early to take in the view before the crowds arrived.

  • Victoria Glacier

Lake Louise, Banff National Park A close-up shot of Victoria Glacier from the shoreline of Lake Louise. I didn't explore the trails that go toward Victoria Glacier this trip.

  • Marmot

Cirque Peak, Banff National Park As I hiked the trail, I met a furry critter - a marmot. It didn't seem to really care about my existence and went about its business.

  • Cirque Peak Across the Stream

Cirque Peak, Banff National Park Cirque Peak coming into view. But before that, there's a stream that needs crossing.

  • Rock Hopping to Cirque Peak

Cirque Peak, Banff National Park This was the stream crossing. A few strategically placed rocks and a few hops and I'm over the stream.

  • Cirque Peak

Cirque Peak, Banff National Park I didn't end up going up the peak becaues of all of the snow. Maybe it was still doable, but I decided that this was as close as I was getting.

  • Dolomite Peak on the Way Back

Cirque Peak, Banff National Park Cirque Peak wasn't the only interesting landmark in the area. Dolomite Peak stands out with its unique top formations, seen here beyond the snow-covered field by Cirque Peak.

  • Running Marmot

Cirque Peak, Banff National Park As I head back, I run into a marmot again (no idea if it was the same one though). Caught traveling in this shot with the valley in the background.

  • Crowfoot Glacier and Peaks

Cirque Peak, Banff National Park The Cirque Peak trail gives good views of the Crowfoot Glacier across the valley. The glacier is on the left-side.

  • Crowfoot Glacier

Cirque Peak, Banff National Park A closer shot of the Crowfoot Glacier. I think I can see where the name comes from, although it takes some imagination and will likely take even more in the future as it recedes further.

Back to Lake Louise

  • Mountain Range

Banff National Park On the way back to Lake Louise, I pass my this view of a mountain range in the distant.

  • Resting Bird

Lake Louise, Banff National Park I'm back in Lake Louise in the middle of the afternoon. I relax by touring the grounds around the Fairmont and catch this bird enjoying its day.

  • Afternoon at Lake Louise

Lake Louise, Banff National Park The waters of Lake Louise are no longer calm like in the morning, but the sunlight is creating brilliant colours in the shallows.

  • Canoeing under Fairview

Lake Louise, Banff National Park Multiple people out canoeing out on Lake Louise under the gigantic Fairview Mountain.

  • Moraine Lake and the Ten Peaks

Moraine Lake, Banff National Park I decided to take a quick drive to Moraine Lake to scout out the area for the next day's Sentinel Pass hike. This was a busy area, but this is Moraine Lake framed by the "ten peaks". Not all ten peaks are in this shot, but a sign of things to come.
